Broker Requirements

Carriers must meet the following authority and insurance requirements.

Insurance Requirements
  • Minimum $100,000 cargo insurance
  • Minimum $1,000,000 auto liability
  • Insurer rated B+ or better on A.M. Best
Other Authority Requirements
  • Be ready to provide details on your modes, commodities, tractor/equipment counts, and certifications.
  • Safety rating must be Satisfactory or None. If you are not rated by the DOT, you may be subject to additional qualification procedures.

Documents Needed for Carrier Setup

Please have the following documents ready. All documents must be complete, current, and legible.

W9

Must be complete and accurate.

COI (Certificate of Insurance)
  • Coverage lines must be active.
  • The expiration date must be after today.
  • If using an ACORD form, an insurance contact should appear in the top right.
COA (Certificate of Authority)
  • Many brokers require you to upload this.
  • Have your authority age and interstate/intrastate status ready.
NOA (Notice of Assignment)
  • Must show an effective date.
  • Must include payee bank information — your factoring company if you use one, or your own company bank details.
Equipment List
  • Number of tractors.
  • Number of trailers, with the type and size of each.

System Setup

Schneider runs carrier onboarding through RMIS (Registry Monitoring Insurance Services), Truckstop's widely used compliance platform for the trucking industry.

With RMIS you get one universal login that works across every broker who uses it, though each broker has its own registration URL. Once your W-9 and insurance are on file with RMIS, that same information — along with any profile details you've already entered — carries over to your other RMIS setups.

Some RMIS onboarding processes require an invitation code from the broker.

Additional Insured

If you've already onboarded with another broker through RMIS, your insurance information should already be on file. Otherwise, you may be asked to add RMIS as the additional insured on your policy:
